Meet our Board of Directors for Third Street Theatre Society

Board Chair

Barb is an actress, host and voiceover artist known for her work on stage and screen as well as her many character voices for commercials and animated series. On stage Barb has played diverse characters from Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate, to many of Shakespeare’s women including Queen Margaret in Richard III, Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet , a Witch in MacBeth and Queen Tamora  in Titus Andronicus. She has performed in musicals like Theatre Calgary’s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Nunsense for Front Row Centre Players and recently she’s explored her love of sketch comedy with a group called The Late, Late Breakfast Show. On screen she is known for “The Merry In Laws”, “Haunting Melissa”, “Lost Holiday”, “Dawn Anna”, “The Right Kind of Wrong”, “Horses of McBride”, “Burn Up”, “Hell on Wheels”, “Heartland”, “Ally Was Screaming”, “Sandcastle”, “Escape Routes”, “The End” and more. Her character voices can be heard on radio commercials and English dubbed versions of the animated series “Keymon”, “Flame of Recca”, “Dragonball”,  “Bibi Blocksberg”, “Full Moon”, “My Otome Zwei”, “My Otome Ni” & “My Otome Ichi”. Barb has over 22 years experience as a news anchor, national correspondent and morning show host having worked for Global Television, Global National, City TV, CTV News and Shaw TV. She has written, produced and hosted multiple documentaries and various TV specials and series. She has also emceed hundreds of charitable, corporate events, charitable galas and award shows. Barb is married and has three children.

Secretary

Grant Stevens is a lawyer in Calgary. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2012. After a three-year stint on Vancouver Island, Grant is pleased to have retuned to his hometown of Calgary. This return to the prairies was made in part by the ever expanding and ever impressive arts, culture, and music scene in Calgary. Grant is looking forward to working with Third Street Theatre Society as it grows into one of Calgary’s artistic staples.

Treasurer

Jon Cornea is a proud to be born and raised in Calgary. He has been involved in Calgary’s arts scene as a young adult with the local Loose Moose Theatre Co, and volunteering with ATP and Theatre Calgary.  Jon’s love of music and the arts, saw him work as an artist, musician and sound engineer/technician in Calgary until his departure to pursue study and arts in Vancouver, BC. Since his return to Calgary in 2006, Jon has worked in financial services, and currently is dedicated to the members and community spirit of a local Credit Union, First Calgary Financial. Jon is honoured to sit on the Board of Director’s of Third Street Theatre Co., and promote the “exploration of what it means to be human”.

Director

Weston Jacques holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from the University of Calgary and offers experience in digital marketing, public relations and event planning. He has worked for and organized a number of events around Calgary such as Expo Latino, Western Canada’s Largest Latin Cultural Arts Festival. Currently, working as a Communication Coordinator for a non-profit social support agency, Weston is responsible for communicating agency news to the public and the media. Weston has always had a passion for and has been involved within the Arts community in Calgary. During his youth, he was involved in the theatre community performing as a member of the Heritage Park Players. As a teenager his passion turned to classical music where he was a member of the Mount Royal Conservatory’s Academy for Gifted Youth. There he studied with and performed for many world renowned musicians. He currently performs with the Calgary Wind Symphony. In his spare time, he loves to travel. Weston completed part of his degree in Ireland and just recently traveled all over South East Asia. Weston is thrilled to be a part of Third Street Theatre and is excited to see what the future has in store for the company.


STOWE picLisa Stowe

Director

Lisa Stowe is originally from Newfoundland where her theatre credits include artistic director of Between the Acts Productions as well as completing a Masters thesis exploring the works of Canadian playwright, Judith Thompson. She is now a full time faculty member in the Department of Communication and Culture at the University of Calgary where she teaches food studies, rhetorical communication and peer mentoring and higher education. She is also currently a doctoral candidate in the Werklund School of Education (Adult Learning Specialization). In a previous life she was a para-cyclist and competed for Canada at various competitions. She is delighted to back in the theatre world again and is excited to be on the board of directors for Third Street Theatre.

 

Joseph Bardsley - 1-2Joseph Bardsley
Director at Large

Joseph Bardsley is the Development Manager, Grants & Proposals for Vancouver Opera. In this capacity, he is responsible for researching, drafting, filing and reporting on the Opera’s grant proposals and applications at all levels of government. In addition, his role encompasses the research, stewardship and cultivation of private/family foundation grant-makers, and continued efforts to maintain and increase this revenue source. In addition to his work with Third Street, Joseph is also a Board member for two local independent, professional theatre companies in Vancouver – the frank theatre company and Pi TheatrePrior to Vancouver Opera, Joseph worked at Theatre Calgary in a corporate fund development capacity following his tenure in a communications role at Alberta Theatre ProjectsJoseph is an arts administrator, writer and active community volunteer with a special interest in cultural planning and community engagement by way of the performing arts. He holds a BA in Journalism (Mount Royal University, 2006) and is a Board member for the Vancouver chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
